Birmingham Civil Rights Institute Announces Events

Birmingham Civil Rights Institute BCRI will be open on Mondays from January 18-February 25, 2013

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (BCRI) announces the following events sponsored by the Birmingham Chapter of Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, the Metro Birmingham Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and BCRI to commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:


 

January 18: Financial Empowerment Seminar

January 19: Annual Gun Buy Back

St. Joseph Baptist Church - 9:00 am - 12 Noon.  Sponsored by SCLC: 205-937-5679.

January 19: Citywide Youth Program and Activities

January 20: “Message through Our Music: 50 Years of Celebration”

January 20: Reflect and Rejoice: A Community Tribute to Dr.  Martin Luther King, Jr. 

The Alabama Symphony Orchestra will perform “Reflect and Rejoice”, a musical tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at UAB’s Alys Robinson Stephens Performing Arts Center at 3:00 pm.  The event will be conducted by Roderick Cox, ASO Assistant Conductor and will feature The Aeolians of Oakwood University, the Girls of the 16th Street Baptist Church and 2 world premieres from Dr. Henry Panion III. Tickets at www.alabamasymphony.org. Sponsored by Alabama Symphony Orchestra, PNC Bank and BCRI.

Jan 21: Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Unity Breakfast

Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex: Sponsoring organizations: Metro Birmingham SCLC Chair, Metro Birmingham Branch NAACP, Metro Diversity Coalition, Greater Birmingham Ministries, and Community Affairs Committee of Operation New Birmingham (ONB). 7:30 am.
