Extended Feature from Our Special Anniversary Commemorative issue
To conclude our 40th anniversary publishing year, we asked outgoing publisher of THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Magazine and company founder, Preston J. Edwards, Sr., to review and reflect upon the issues we’ve covered in print since our beginnings in 1970.
Presented here is a sampler of excerpts from pieces he considered to be among “the Best of THE BLACK COLLEGIAN,” with their complete versions and a number of other selections exclusively available on our extended online edition at DiversityEmployers.com.
It’s hard to zero in on a single common thread among the diverse pieces that follow. Some are penned by the most noted authors of our time, while others are simple bits of advice shared by non-writers with great insight into a particular industry or employment field. Some are straightforward Q&A, others were comprehensive historical reference articles, and others richly illustrated contemporary art features. What they share, perhaps, is a dedication to representing the personal, cultural, academic and professional interests of African American college students of their time. In some cases they show us how far we’ve come, and in others, how far we can still go.
These represent only some of those topics and people we thought to be significant from the history and archives of THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Magazine. We encourage you to explore our archives online and let us know what you found to be “the best” and most engaging issues behind us, and those worthy of attention in DIVERSITY EMPLOYERS in the years to come.
