Required Qualifications:
BA/BS in Human Resources or Business, or a related field or a combination of related education and professional HR work experience to equal 4 years.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to communicate in a variety of methods to a diverse campus population.
Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, critical thinking skills, and exceptional customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using Google workspace tools and HRMS systems.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Experience with PeopleSoft software.
Knowledgeable on the following HR topics: payroll administration, employment verification, I-9 compliance, applicant process, absence management processes, benefits administration, etc.
Experience with or ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds and cultures.

The Human Resources Generalist reports to the Director of Human Resources and provides consultation and support to the campus across a spectrum of human resources functions including, but not limited to: workforce planning, payroll coordination, HRMS entry and audit, talent acquisition, performance management, employee and labor relations. The HR Generalist interprets and applies University human resources principles, policies, procedures, labor represented contracts, and relevant federal and state laws. This position establishes effective ongoing relations with assigned business units, identifying and implementing innovative approaches to maximize employee capacity and performance and ensure organizational effectiveness. The HR Generalist has a responsibility to ensure continuous improvement of HR operations on the Crookston campus; to evaluate, develop, and implement best practices and processes; and for representing the college and the HR function in a positive manner within the University and the external community.

Payroll Coordination (40%)

Process and maintain job, position, and compensation information of new, current, and terminated employees in PeopleSoft HRMS system while ensuring compliance with applicable human resource-related laws, U of M policies/procedures, and documentation retention schedules
Audit HRMS data for accuracy and follow proper procedures to resolve discrepancies
Review payroll reports for accuracy, including pre payroll confirmation reports
Answer payroll questions and serve as a resource to UMN-C faculty and staff on payroll policies and procedure
Process and track Person of Interest (POI) account
Research and recommend process improvements to better utilized HRMS & Reporting Center to implement best practices
Manage faculty comp processes such as adjunct faculty offer letters and salary memos.
Track augmentations and salary equity changes.
HRMS Maintenance and Onboarding (30%)

Post faculty job opportunities, externally advertise and monitor hiring process with search committee and hiring authorities, ensuring pool diversity.
Draft employment/appointment related letters and memos as directed by the HR Director for new hires and current employees.
Process new hire and current employee position record changes in HRMS systems
Review Position Management on a regular basis to ensure correct reporting structures, FTE changes, and classifications
Maintains job data integrity in HRMS by conducting routine audits and analyzing data; ensures changes are incorporated so systems are compliant with all policies
Responsible for entry and appointment maintenance of adjunct and affiliate appointments
Conduct I-9 employment verification and employee onboarding.
Maintain accuracy with E Verify I9’s with updating information as necessary for applicable team members (including reverifications and visa renewals)
Employee Relations (20%)

Primary contact person for employees who have questions regarding appointment and benefits. Provide compensation policy and procedure information to campus units.
Interpret, apply and enforce HR policies and principles, employment law, union contracts, and work rules to ensure compliance and commitment by management.
Evaluate and consult on position descriptions, reclassifications and job evaluation questionnaires to determine appropriate compensation and classification prior to submission to OHR.
Assist in employee investigations, including interviewing employees and documenting findings.
Assist in administering and/or coordinating employment-related University programs and projects (employee onboarding, exit interviews, performance appraisals, Workers Comp, EEO programs, etc.).
Update and maintain employee personnel files to ensure all information is current and accurate.
HR Projects (10%)

Develop, and implement HR related processes, projects and initiatives.
Serve on college and University committees initiated to improve HR relations, processes, employee engagement and workplace culture.
Reviewing HR analytics to inform strategic planning.
Stay apprised of federal and state laws and regulations as well as University of Minnesota policies and procedures, and system changes.
